Dave Rue

Dave Rue grew up on the outskirts of Louisville, Kentucky. He studied with painter William Haney and sculptor Bob Lockhart at Bellarmine College before moving to Portland, Oregon and continuing his studies with sculptor/printmaker Dennis Cunningham at Marylhurst College. In the mid 90’s, Rue owned and operated a gallery in Portland’s Old Town where he showed metal sculpture, mixed media pieces, and work by emerging artists. After closing his gallery, he switched to abstract painting and started playing drums with local bands. Rue toured with roots/rock/junkyard blues band Cicada Omega for several years and started composing music for films. He is currently at work on a new band project, Cosmic Butter, and his new series of paintings, “Changes.”
